The English Department, University of Oregon invites applicants for its open Pro Tem instructor and Pro Tem faculty pool, which we establish to have applications on file when openings become available.

Applicants must have an M.A. in English for teaching argumentative writing courses, a Ph.D. in English to teach literature courses, and demonstrated successful college-level teaching experience appropriate to our needs and to our existing programs. Applicants with training and experience teaching argumentative writing preferred. Our needs would most likely be in lower-division argumentative writing. We may have occasional needs in film and media, lower-division literature courses (Introduction to Drama, Poetry, or Fiction, Shakespeare, British or American surveys), and folklore.
The successful candidates will be expected to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds. Advising and service responsibilities are additional expectations of the appointments. Positions are for one year or less, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years based on need and performance. In limited circumstances, there is the possibility of renewal beyond three years based on programmatic need, funding and performance.
