Three tenured or tenure-track positions at the University of Oregon in the area of Energy and Sustainable Materials
The University of Oregon announces a cluster hire in the area of Energy and Sustainable Materials, broadly defined. Target research areas include: electronic and energy devices, advanced/in-situ characterization, computational materials chemistry/physics, inorganic cluster chemistry, solid-state and materials physics/chemistry, surface science and catalysis.
Appointments may be made in or across any academic department(s), at any rank, and are the first step in a long-term initiative to grow the basic and applied sciences. The hires will join an innovative and highly collaborative team in the Materials Science Institute. Exceptional candidates with backgrounds in chemistry, physics, chemical/electrical/mechanical engineering, and materials science, as well as those with industrial research and development experience, are encouraged to apply. The positions will remain open until filled. Salaries and start-up packages will be highly competitive.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds. She/he will maintain a high-profile, internationally prominent and externally funded research group, while contributing to the teaching mission at the UO.
The initiative builds upon the established excellence of Materials Science at UO. Recent investments include over $30 million in equipment for the CAMCOR materials analysis, characterization and fabrication facility, which is managed by professional staff and housed in two new buildings along with state-of-the art laboratory space. An additional $20 million has been allocated for building remodeling to start in 2016. Oregon is home to the $20 million NSF-funded Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry. Faculty and student experiences are further enhanced by unique graduate-education programs, industry partnerships and innovation activities.
