The Mathematics eText Research Center (MeTRC), part of the Center for Advanced Technology in Education (CATE) is seeking to hire a Research Assistant to support the implementation of federally funded projects that focus on the use of technology to assist students with disabilities to read, comprehend, and learn from mathematical text.  The opening is for a part to full time Research Assistant (.50 FTE – 1.00 FTE), depending on experience, expertise, interest, and funding.  Qualified candidates will assist with grant supported research and development activities, including: (a) conducting extensive literature searches, as well as reviewing, tagging, and managing articles in a large database; (b) creating and maintaining website sections; (c) engaging in professional dialog within a broad research community (d) observations and data collection in school classrooms; (e) data entry, organization, and analysis; (f) assisting in writing and editing documents related to research implementations; (g) assisting in writing journal articles and conference presentations; and (h) assisting in making educational presentations.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher;

  • 2 years’ experience and expertise using online reference tool to manage research literature;

  • Experience and expertise in gathering, organizing and annotating research literature in mathematics education;

  • Experience and expertise with APA 6 formatting;

  • Experience and expertise in organizing and entering data into spreadsheets and/or SPSS;

  • Experience working as part of a research team focused on instructional interventions;

  • Experience creating and managing web content;

  • Experience in the development of multimedia educational materials, (e.g. graphic design, screencasting, scanning and OCRing, and proof reading).

Other desired qualifications:

  • Experience and expertise with Zotero;

  • Experience developing digital instructional materials;

  • Experience with video production;

  • Expertise with basic office software (e.g. MS Word & Excel, PowerPoint, Qualtrics, Adobe InDesign; Adobe Acrobat Pro; Microsoft Windows; Mac OS; Wordpress; Camtasiaetc.);

  • Experience in gathering and organizing data from students/teachers in K-12 classrooms;

  • Excellent skills in writing and verbal communication.

Positions at the Mathematics eText Research Center are of limited duration and dependent on grant funding.  The duration of this position is one year with the possibility of extension depending on funding.  Salary is dependent upon education and experience.  Position is subject to a criminal background check.
