The University of Oregon seeks applications for the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Advancement/Executive Director (ED) UO Alumni Association (UOAA). Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the AVP will oversee the UOAA, including membership and branding; annual giving, and regional advancement programs. In collaboration with the VP for University Advancement, the AVP will develop an integrated model of coordinated outreach between the traditional annual and regional development and the UOAA membership and regional programs. The coordinated effort will have an alumni/donor centered focus, specifically on efficient and effective solicitation and engagement strategies. With a deliberate emphasis on innovation, best practice, and creativity, this position will have broad latitude to create new integrated programs between the relevant but previously separate UOAA and University Development programs. The AVP will have a significant management and leadership role with a combined staff of over 25 employees. In addition this position will provide oversight of the following programs: Annual Fund, Annual and Life Membership acquisitions, membership services, regional development (annual and major gifts), regional and infinity chapters, UOAA licensing, branding and travel programs.
As ED of the UOAA, this position will be the direct liaison to the UOAA board and will be an ex-officio member of the board. In addition, in the Executive Director, UOAA role, the AVP will work, when appropriate with the university president and other university senior administrators. In collaboration with the AVP for Communications, Marketing and Brand Management, this position will develop and implement a brand management strategy for the UOAA, its programs and collaborative efforts within University Advancement and the university community.
Required qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible executive level experience in a complex organization; strong preference for experience in organizations with extensive external outreach; six or more years of progressively responsible development experience, including experience in prospect identification, cultivation, and major gift solicitation or equally progressive experience in an alumni relations/association program in higher education or equally complex institution; and a minimum of five years supervisory experience including hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating work, and handling disciplinary problems. Other qualifications include: demonstrated ability to build and manage programs, develop strategies to achieve operating goals, and experience with financial management and budgeting; demonstrated ability to provide management oversight, including establishing metrics and processes to monitor and evaluate operational performance outcomes; excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures; ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality; excellent organizational skills, strong sense of financial accountability, and the ability to manage resources with prudence and efficiency; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and others as appropriate; commitment to, and experience with, promoting and enhancing diversity and equity; experience recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers; willingness and ability to travel extensively and work long hours and weekends; and experience working within a large, complex organization. In addition, candidates must be proficient in the use of personal computers and their routine software applications.
Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree; demonstrated experience in both university development and alumni relations/affairs; experience in organizations with extensive external outreach; and experience in the field of higher education. In addition, prior to hire, the finalist in this position is subject to a criminal background check.
