Information Services (IS) is the central information technology unit for the University of Oregon. IS provides and supports campus-wide services in the areas of technology support, enterprise applications, middleware, database administration, information security, systems and operations, and data networking and telecommunications. IS also includes the Advanced Network Technology Center and works closely with the Network for Education and Research in Oregon.

The Identity and Data Management Services group is responsible for the identity management, access control, and database infrastructure for the UO. The management of digital identities and the ability to securely access on-line services has become increasingly important with the growth of Internet based services. Working under the direction of the Director for Identity and Data Management Services, the Identity Management Engineer will be part of the team responsible for the implementation and support of authentication and authorization technologies, enterprise directory services, account management and provisioning systems, and the underlying application infrastructure.
The Identity Management Engineer is the main contact for support and integration of enterprise single sign-on and data integration services working with departmental IT staff, outside organizations, and vendors to evaluate and implement services.
The position has no supervisory responsibilities or budgetary authority. This position makes decisions related to the design and development of applications and processes as outlined in the description of duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Implement and support central authentication and authorization technologies, including single sign-on and data integration services. Work with application stakeholders and other technical staff to review and implement services.
Administer enterprise directory services. Configure and manage directory service integration.
Participate in the development, maintenance, and support of account provisioning and management services.
Research and evaluate emerging technologies in Identity and Access Management including multi-factor authentication technologies and federated identity services. Participate in professional development or continuing education opportunities as appropriate.
Work with developers, database administrators, and systems administrators to implement and support services including the coordination of patches and upgrades.
Provide on-call support after hours and weekends (on a rotation basis with other staff).
The following are minimum requirements for this position:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of two years working in a production environment administering and supporting web based services
Understanding of and experience with authentication and authorization technologies
Experience managing web servers such as Apache Tomcat
Familiarity with LDAP and directory services
Experience with Java, PHP, Perl or similar programming languages
Experience with relational database technologies such as MySQL or Oracle
Experience installing and managing web applications running on Linux/Unix
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team of IT professionals
U.S. citizenship (or eligibility for employment under prevailing U.S. immigration laws)
Candidates with experience serving the needs of a diverse population are strongly desired
Working knowledge of Shibboleth or SAML
Understanding of and interest in emerging trends in federated identity
This position is subject to a criminal background check
