Title: Fitness Programs Coordinator

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the Fitness Programs Coordinator will be responsible for providing leadership to a diverse, dynamic and comprehensive fitness program. These include but are not limited to:
Manages the Student Recreation Center Fitness Programs Staff
Recruits, hires, schedules, trains, evaluate student employees working personal trainers, group exercise instructors and monitors.
Prepares and submits time and attendance reports to Physical Education and Recreation business office for payroll processing.
Helps coordinate student training curriculum with department professional staff; reviews and updates training manuals.
Coordinates training schedule and on-going seminars with Assistant Director for Fitness and Fitness Facilities Coordinator.
Teach a Physical Education course to prepare students for Personal Training and/or Group Fitness Instructor certification.
Comply with all aspects of Physical Education course management, including lesson planning, record keeping, maintenance of office hours, and grading.
Administers Fitness Programs and manages program facilities
Train student employees to work one-on-one with clients; conduct Fitness Assessments (body composition, aerobic fitness, muscular fitness) and Personal Training sessions.
Maintain the Personal Training appointment schedule and oversee all appointments in the Fitness Services (prices, forms, equipment, etc).
Administer the Group Exercise workout program; scheduling, instructor training and supervision, evaluation, equipment, etc
Develop and initiate new fitness programs and special events.
Market fitness and wellness programs to the campus community.
Addresses customer service and safety issues with patrons in fitness areas.
Collaborates and follows up on maintenance requests with our maintenance staff for equipment repair request.
Conducts inspections to identify minor equipment replacement needs.
Assists in research and recommendations for exercise equipment and accessories.
Compiles, organizes and evaluates Student Recreation Center fitness programs participation and sales to prepare reports
Assist Assistant Director for Fitness with development and review of student personnel and fitness equipment budgets.
Other Duties as Assigned
Serves on the department and university teams and committees.
Prepares and submits annual report to Assistant Director for Fitness
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration/Management, Leisure Studies, Exercise Science, Sports Management or Physical Education or related field plus two years of experience in fitness programs. An additional two years in fitness programs will substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.
Two or more years of supervisory experience.
Demonstrated experience with and /or commitment to working effectively with students, parents, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Demonstrated ability to hire, supervise and evaluate student employees and to handle payroll and general personnel functions.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and implement employee training programs.
Experience in, or demonstrated understanding of, basic budget oversight, facilities and equipment maintenance, inventory control and purchasing.
CPR/AED and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain.
Strong skills in written and oral communication.

Two or more years of experience in student conduct, crisis intervention and emergency response.

About the Department of Physical Education and Recreation
The Department of Physical Education and Recreation is comprised of three primary areas, each headed by an Associate Director:
1. Recreation Programs (intramural sports, fitness, aquatics, rock wall, informal recreation, special programs & youth sports camps)
2. Physical Education (academic course curriculum)
3. Facilities, Operations and Services
Physical Education & Recreation reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. Other units of Student Affairs include Dean of Students, Career Center, Counseling and Testing Center, Erb Memorial Union, Health Center, Housing and Holden Leadership Center.
