Information Services (IS) is the central information technology unit for the University of Oregon. IS provides and supports campus-wide services in the areas of technology support, enterprise applications, middleware, information security, systems and operations, and data networking and telecommunications. IS also includes the Advanced Network Technology Center and works closely with the Network for Education and Research in Oregon.

Working under the direction of the Associate Director for Enterprise Administrative Applications, the Application Platform Administrator participates in the installation, configuration, maintenance and support of application platforms including Oracle WebLogic Server and Fusion Middleware, IBM Cognos, and open source technologies such as Apache and Tomcat. This includes installing application environments, configuring integration with databases and authentication services, installing and patching application infrastructure components, and administering application settings. The Application Platform Administrator also coordinates system configuration and maintenance tasks, working closely with systems administration, database administration, programming and support staff.
The position has no supervisory responsibilities or budgetary authority. This position makes decisions related to the design and development of applications and processes as outlined in the description of duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of enterprise application infrastructure. Application integration with Identity and Access Management system including configuration of authentication services. Application platform performance monitoring and troubleshooting. Application administration.
Work with application developers, database administrators, and system administrators to research, design, and implement enterprise application services for the University community. Write and maintain documentation on service configuration and support procedures.
Work with application developers, database administrators, and systems administrators to coordinate and install application patches and upgrades.
Consult with other Information Services and campus IT staff to provide software integration services.
Provide on-call support after hours and weekends (on a rotation basis with other staff).
* Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Minimum of two years working in a production environment administering and supporting application infrastructure services
* Experience configuring web servers such as Apache
* Experience with java application server platforms such as Tomcat or Oracle WebLogic Server
* Experience with SQL and relational database technologies such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL
* Experience troubleshooting application problems and monitoring and tuning application performance
* Experience installing and managing applications running on Linux/Unix and/or Microsoft Windows Server and configuring integration with databases and authentication services
* Experience with application development tools and technologies such as Java/JSP, Perl, XML and scripting tools such as Bash or Windows Powershell
* Excellent writing, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities
* An understanding of the security issues involved in maintaining and safeguarding institutional data
*Candidates with experience serving the needs of a diverse population are strongly desired
* U.S. citizenship (or eligibility for employment under prevailing U.S. immigration laws)
*Experience with Oracle Web Logic Server, Oracle Fusion Middleware or IBM Cognos
*Experience implementing and supporting high availability enterprise services
