General Manager Concessions - Matthew Knight Arena - Archive

SALARY RANGE:  Commensurate with experience

PERIOD OF APPOINTMENT:  Full time, twelve month position


Minimum qualifications include; Bachelor’s Degree; five years' management experience in arena or stadium concessions operations. 

Preferred qualifications include; a comprehensive understanding of financial, operational and customer service goals common in the concessions industry; capacity for creative and adaptive problem solving in a retail concessions environment; demonstrated history managing marketing elements that include product, price, portion, and production decisions; experience leading, training and evaluating a part-time and not-for-profit volunteer workforce; experience managing commercial kitchen facilities; working knowledge of Micros point of sale equipment and Tangent reporting systems; superior oral and written communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Successful candidate must qualify for an Oregon Liquor Control Commission Full On-Premise Sales License.

Candidates with experience serving the needs of diverse populations are strongly desired.  Position is subject to a criminal background check.


Manage concessions operations at the Matthew Knight Arena, Hayward Field and Howe Field.

Manage and be accountable for all elements of the Oregon concessions business plan and employ best practices consistent with operating philosophy and principals.  Manage one full-time office of administration, 50-100 volunteer employees and 10-20 student employees at events held in University of Oregon Athletic Department facilities.  Assure a positive retail experience for customers through exceptional performance of supervised staff, not for profit organization volunteers and purveyors. 

Implement and optimize an operating plan that produces value, speed of service, generous portions and high food quality. 

Provide leadership, information and training to staff that supports and encourages success.  Administer menu assessments, competitive procurement, inventory management, and waste control programs. 

Execute effective cost controls.  Produce relevant, accurate and timely financial projections and reports.  Assure proper cash handling procedures are observed.  Work will include weekend and evening hours depending on program needs.

Managerial duties include seasonal support at the Autzen Stadium during the football season and other duties as assigned.
