The University of Oregon and University Development are seeking applications for the Director of Development, NW Region position in the Regional Development Program. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Annual, Regional, and Special Gifts in University Development, the director is responsible for the strategic identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $100,000 or more. Additionally, the director will be expected to build and successfully manage a portfolio of philanthropic partners, as well as work with other university leaders, faculty, and other development officers to coordinate donor cultivation and solicitation strategies. The position is field-oriented, requiring direct contact with donors and donor prospects and will involve regular and consistent travel.
The director will be responsible for meeting fundraising goals as they relate to the strategic needs of the university. Performance as measured against these goals will be evaluated annually.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include: bachelor’s degree; and a minimum of three years' fundraising experience or five years' combined experience in development and a closely related field such as corporate sales. Other qualifications include: extensive experience in prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation; a demonstrated ability to manage people and/or programs and develop strategies to achieve operating goals; the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff; the ability and willingness to quickly learn the university history, mission, demographics, faculty, programs, and departments as well as the university culture in order to persuasively articulate how the UO distinguishes itself from peer institutions; a strong sense of donor driven customer service; proficiency in the use of personal computers and their routine software applications; and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. In addition, successful candidates will have the discretion and ability to interact with high-level donors; the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality; and the ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospective donors to university needs. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience working with volunteer boards; have experience in higher education development; and an understanding of the nature of a professional school and research university. The ability to travel is also required. Prior to hire, the finalist in this position must complete a criminal background check.
