A part-time (.50 FTE) supervisory position within the University of Oregon’s Police Department (UOPD). This position may become full-time (1.0 FTE) at some time in the future. Sergeants may be assigned to a variety of complex administrative, operational and programmatic functions throughout the department. Coordinate and/or personally conduct investigations of criminal offenses or suspected criminal offenses committed on campus-controlled property; Coordinate and/or personally conduct technical crime scene investigations, to include collection and preservation of forensic evidence. Coordinate and/or personally conduct special investigations and surveillance of persons and property involved in criminal investigations; Coordinate major crimes investigations with external criminal justice agencies. Collaborate with campus and community partners to ensure that crime victims and witnesses are advised of available resources and receive support tailored to their individual circumstances.
Requires: Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university or completion of specialized college level coursework in criminal justice, including courses in supervision, equivalent to 60 credits from an accredited college/university, minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible law enforcement/public safety experience to include coordination of specialized duties and/or functions that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position; minimum two (2) years' supervisory experience.
Preferred qualifications - bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; minimum of five (5) years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer; minimum of four (4)years of supervisory experience within law enforcement setting; proven ability to consistently demonstrate a high degree of personal integrity, ethics and emotional maturity. Must pass a criminal history check; driving record check; physical and psychological exam. Range is $26.44 to $31.25 per hour, commensurate with experience and skill set.
