The MBA Career Adviser will advocate advanced career development for MBA students and facilitate corporate connections and employment opportunities for students enrolled in the MBA program at the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business. The position will focus on two areas: student preparation and developing external relationships.

The role includes mentoring individual students on advanced career placement techniques such as negotiation and career search readiness. The Career Adviser will foster a network of corporate contacts to develop internship and permanent career opportunities in conjunction with the network and resources already in place. Additionally, they will expand the school’s partnership with local, national, and global business to enhance career opportunities distinctively for MBA students. An important factor for success will be identifying networks and leveraging connections that lead MBA students to employment opportunities. The Career Adviser should have an innovative approach and creative mindset in generating career exploration and networking outlets for MBA students to access. In coordination with the centers of excellence and the Lundquist College Career Services Office, the position will also develop a program to engage alumni in mentoring students and identifying career opportunities.

Though the focus is on MBA students, it is essential that the Career Adviser work closely with the Lundquist College Career Services Office and the directors of the Lundquist College of Business centers of excellence to ensure a high quality and seamless experience for incoming and current students. This role is designed to utilize, leverage, expand, and work collaboratively with the existing network that has been built by the Career Services Center, specifically for the purpose of building a superior career services program for MBA students. This position is a one year position, with potential for annual renewal. After three years the position will be reviewed to determine if it should be continued. Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategy and operational plan for MBA students that integrate with the overall approach of the Oregon MBA and Career Service Center, focusing on growing career opportunities for students and enhancing the visibility of the Oregon MBA.

  • Work with individual students to further develop their unique search strategies and ensure that their presentations, material, and presence support their goals.

  • Develop educational programming that prepares students to be competitive in a highly-discerning job market.

  • Coordinate new and existing external relationships with corporate executives, human resource managers, recruiters and alumni.  Attend corporate and alumni events to leverage a network of key decision makers.

  • In coordination with current staff and resources, generate on-campus and off-site opportunities for students to meet with recruiters and others who can facilitate job placement. This should include activities that will attract the attention of companies to the Oregon MBA and its students.

  • Involve alumni in advising and mentoring students in their career development.

  • Prepare and present reports on placement statistics and career development initiatives for the Oregon MBA.

Formal Qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 7 years’ of related experience in business administration, corporate recruitment, career services, and human resources or marketing.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Exceptional business acumen, experience in recruiting and sales and the ability to assess employment needs and individual capabilities.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative and effective manner in a complex environment with faculty, administrators, students, alumni and business people at all levels of an organization.

  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with program’s constituents.

Formal Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Masters in related field or MBA

  • Higher education experience

  • Supervisory Experience

Final candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check.

Employment beginning: January 2013 (negotiable)
