POSITIONS:  Director of Bands, Conducting, Conductor of the UO Wind Ensemble (Announcement #12225)

RANK & SALARY:  Tenure-track appointment.  Assistant or Associate Professor, salary commensurate with training and experience

STARTING DATE:  September 16, 2013

DUTIES:  Responsibilities for the position will be to serve as music director and conductor of the university wind ensemble as well as administrative responsibility for all UO Bands (e.g., Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Campus Band, Athletic Bands); additional duties will include teaching of conducting and leading the master’s-level wind conducting program as well as establishing and maintaining active working relationships with state and regional instrumental teachers and high school band directors.  Additional duties will be dependent upon qualifications and interests of the applicant and the needs of the school.  Maintain a program of appropriate research/creative activity, serve on committees, and perform other appropriate University service.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s degree in music required; doctorate or equivalent experience preferred. Evidence of excellence in teaching and conducting at the college and/or secondary school level is preferred; demonstrated record of ongoing activity in professional organizations; an ability to organize, manage, and communicate effectively with a diverse faculty and student body; effective inter­personal skills; demonstrated knowledge of current trends and issues in music education; and a record of commitment to university, school, and community colla­bor­a­tions.  The successful candidate will demonstrate high potential for recruiting, building, and maintaining an outstanding program. We seek candidates with the demon­strat­ed poten­tial to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

SCHOOL:  The music program has an enrollment of more than 400 music majors and a faculty and staff of 85 plus 70 Graduate Teaching Fellows.  A wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered, from the baccalaureate through the doctoral level, including programs in performance, accompanying, music education, composition, theory, history, jazz studies, piano and string pedagogy, conducting, music technology, and music with a liberal arts emphasis. The school is designated as the only full-range professional school of music and dance in the Oregon University System.
