Education Studies invites applications for adjunct faculty to provide support to practicum students in elementary or middle/high licensure programs. Elementary and middle/high appointments are expected to begin in September and continue until June. There is a possibility of renewal based on program needs, funding and job performance. Limited travel within Lane County is required.
Working with the Master’s Degree Curriculum Coordinator, SIG Leader duties include meeting six times Fall and Winter terms and four times Spring term with a group of approximately 15-20 student teachers to facilitate discussion regarding student teaching experiences, assisting students with work samples and other program requirements, identifying student support and instructional needs, communicating and assisting to resolve concerns and reinforcing the program’s teaching philosophy.
Master’s degree and substantial teaching experience in K-12 schools required. For Middle/High SIG Leaders, requirements also include teaching experience and demonstrated expertise in a licensure content area (social studies, language arts, science, math, second language). Experience as a university supervisor for student teachers is preferred.
Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work with new teachers, excellent communication skills, evidence of knowledge regarding multicultural education and the social and cultural foundations of education, demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations, and evidence of familiarity with hands-on, engaging pedagogy that invites a critical understanding of the world.
