o The Moss Street Children's Center at the University of Oregon Erb Memorial Union invites applications for part-time (.25 FTE), intermittent Substitute Teacher (Early Childhood Assistant).
o Moss Street Children's Center is an early child development program which primarily serves children, aged 3 months to eleven years, of UO students. Approximately 200 children are served at our on-campus site. Center hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional weekend hours; substitutes must be available to work at least half of the open hours.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union. Because this position works less than half-time, it is not eligible for employee benefits, but is eligible for pro-rated vacation, sick, and holiday leave.
o This recruitment is open to any applicant who meets the qualifications listed below.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:

... at least twenty semester (thirty quarter) hours of college level course work from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Special Education; OR
... Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials; OR
... at least one year of full-time experience in a certified day care center or comparable group child care program; or
... an equivalent combination of education and qualifying teaching experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position assists lead teachers in a child care program and assumes the responsibilities of the lead teacher in his or her absence. Duties include:
... interacting with children in small group, large group and one-to-one settings; leading group activities and assisting children with self-help skills.
... assisting in preparing and maintaining a safe, attractive, neat, and usable environment, both indoors and outdoors; assisting in recording and maintaining children's files; supervising aides and work study students; supervising preparation and clean up of snacks and lunches, following USDA and Child Care Division requirements.
... providing direction and on-site supervision for student classroom aides.
... encouraging consistent and clear communication with parents and maintaining clear and frequent communication with lead teacher, including updates on current needs and concerns of program, staff, parents and children.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires ability to bend, lift, and sit on the floor with children on a daily basis; occasional travel for field trips, by walking and by car or van; frequent exposure to cleaning solutions such as disinfectant hand soap and sanitizing agents; frequent exposure to childhood illnesses. Work environment includes high noise and activity levels.

2. Describe your experience in maintaining a safe, attractive, and neat indoor and outdoor environment and in monitoring room cleanup and organization. Indicate if this experience included participation in the preparation, serving, and cleanup of snacks and meals.

3. Describe your experience in communicating, both orally and in writing with parents and other teaching staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
