o The University of Oregon Department of English invite applications for a part-time (.5 FTE) Information Technology Consultant.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... basic foundation knowledge and skills in technology and information systems as generally obtained through an associate's degree in information systems or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience.
* Ability to set up, install and troubleshoot networked PC systems, hardware, and software.
* Expertise in applications of Microsoft Office and Access.
* Working knowledge of HTML and GQL.
* Ability to work independently and show initiative and self-direction.
* Good working knowledge of business practices.
* Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of staff, faculty and students, with varying levels of technical and computer expertise.
* General working knowledge of the VMS operating system.
Position is subject to a criminal background check.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position provides principal computer support for staff, faculty, and students of the Department English. Duties include:
... providing consultation on installation and troubleshooting software for Windows and Macintosh operating systems and Microsoft Office products; training users in computer applications; analyzing user application requirements and recommending options to best utilize the installed applications; maintaining current knowledge of hardware and software products and developments in the microcomputer industry; advising the Manager of Admin. Services of updates, purchases are necessary for department-owned equipment; assisting staff and administrators with data collection, analysis and methodology.
... maintaining and updating department Web pages, including graphics and layout, and ensuring that content is accurate and current; training staff to post information directly to the site.
... maintains Macintosh computers in the Composition Program classroom, including setting up new hardware, installing software, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems; training instructional staff on uses of computer and programs; keeping the Directors of Composition informed of computer problems, advising them on resolution and needs of the room.
... designing automated office procedures and systems, analyzing computing resources and administrative needs.
... investigating and identifying problems of malfunctioning PCs; submitting service requests to CASIT department and serving as contact person for English; maintaining and setting up online control of department networked copiers and printers; troubleshooting problems related to the printers and serving as liaison between department and vendor.
... recommending acquisition of equipment and software, installing and configuring new computer equipment; maintaining department files on software licenses; maintaining department inventory files; working with student computer support staff by delegating tasks and overseeing work quality.
