o Early Childhood CARES at the University of Oregon invites applications for for part-time (.75 FTE) Early Childhood Assistant. Position works during academic year, plus five weeks in the summer. Position works a flexible schedule according to program needs.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... 20 semester hours (30 quarter hours) of college level course work in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Special Education; OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials; OR the equivalent to one year of full-time experience working in a certified day care center or comparable group care program with pre-school aged children. Position is subject to criminal record check
Prefer candidates with training or experience working with children with developmental disabilities, including autism.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position assists in the preparation and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool aged children with disabilities, including autism, to promote growth and learning. Duties include:
... understanding and utilizing best practice teaching methods to teach skills in all developing areas.
... preparing and implementing curriculum, making adaptations when necessary, to teach at individual child skill level.
... observing, recording and taking data. Interpreting data and making decisions regarding teaching steps.
... helping to promote communication, play skills and interaction skills; demonstrating team collaboration by communicating with team members and parents.
... performing care-giving activities for children, if needed.
... implementing behavior management programs and monitoring progress.
Frequent exposure to childhood illnesses. Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sit on the floor for extended periods, bend, stoop, and crawl.

1. Describe your experience and/or training in assisting in the planning, preparing, and implementing curriculum for preschool aged children. Indicate the ages of the children served and the type of child care setting.
2. Describe your experience working with children with special needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, and assisting them in meeting individual educational goals. Indicate if this experience included adapting activities, materials and equipment for children with special needs or providing one-on-one instruction for children with special needs. Specify also your experience promoting communication and socialization between children with special needs and their normally developing peers.
