o Printing and Mailing Services at the University of Oregon invites applications for a part-time (.5 FTE) Printing Press Operator.
o This is a classified position represented by the Teamsters Union.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... completion of apprenticeship in large or small sheet-fed press and bindery operation; OR
... journey-level, sheet-fed press and bindery operation experience for a large printing plant.
Training and/or experience must show: a) knowledge of the set up operation, maintenance and repair of large and small presses; b) knowledge of the characteristics and interaction of papers, inks, dryers, etc.; c) skill in the set up, operation and control of multicolor and/or special press runs; d) knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures for related equipment; e) skill in the setup, operation and control of all bindery functions and equipment; and f) experience in customer relations.
Position requires journeyman level experience with Heidelberg, Miehle, Ryobi, or other related lithographic offset presses; thorough understanding of paper types and weights, ink properties, and fountain solutions; experience on a variety of models of production bindery equipment and other technical aspects of printing operations; ability to work in an environment of ever-changing deadlines; ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Position requires valid driver's license and good driving record.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position operates lithographic presses, running single, multi, and four-color process jobs of varying sizes and papers. Duties include:
... reviewing individual job orders to determine specifications, consulting with supervisor as necessary; setting up press for different sizes and thickness of paper, making proper adjustments on feedboard and delivery areas; mixing ink and pressing wash-ups when changing to new ink color; running sheet sizes up to 20" x 28", single or multiple color jobs ensuring proper registration and inking; printing on a wide variety of paper stocks; making job quality assessments consulting with a supervisor as necessary; maintaining accurate records of time and production.
... working in Bindery on various equipment, including cutting, folding, stitching, and punching; making plates utilizing a direct-to-plate system through a digital file queue; filing plate jackets and retrieving pickup plates from filing cabinet; performing minor repair involving adjustment and replacement of parts, including periodic lubrication and maintenance of press.
Requires ability to stand for an entire shift operating equipment, occasional lifting of 50 pound cartons of paper, occasional exposure to varying levels of noise and periods walking between process areas of printing.
