o University of Oregon Housing invites applications for full-time Custodian.
o Positions work night shift; typical hours of work are 10:15 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Employees working during night and weekend hours are eligible for shift differential of $.75 per hour.
o These are classified positions represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between date of hire and June 30, 2013.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... the equivalent of at least one year of full-time custodial experience;
... ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions;
... ability to do extensive stair climbing and prolonged periods of walking on hard smooth finishes and uneven surfaces, carrying equipment, supplies, and/or tools;
... ability to perform regular and often prolonged bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, and stooping;
... ability to work in freezers, coolers, service tunnels, and basement spaces and poorly lighted or noisy areas;
... ability to read, understand, and perform tasks described verbally or in writing; ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers verbally and in writing;
... ability to work independently and recall instructions concerning work priorities and sequence;
... strong customer relations skills and demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with an increasingly diverse higher education population.
... valid driver's license and good driving record.
Must pass background check, physical exam, and Essential Function Test.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position works on the night floor care crew and also performs general custodial duties to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary conditions in and around residence halls and apartments/houses. Duties include:
... floor care including sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing; carpet care including vacuuming, shampooing, edging and spot cleaning; cleaning and disinfecting rest rooms including ceilings, walls, windows, fixtures, doors; scrubbing, sanitizing and maintaining shower and dressing rooms; washing walls, windows and doors (inside and out), high and low dusting, cleaning upholstery; spot cleaning furniture and moving furniture between areas; replacing light bulbs, light lenses and other minor maintenance; maintaining equipment by keeping clean and in good working order.
... responding to emergency requests for custodial service in a variety of university buildings, on and off campus; leading and transporting temporary work crews during summer.
... communicating with residents about custodial and maintenance issues, both orally and in writing; providing special room set ups.
... serving as occupancy coordinator, including completing forms for linen and equipment check outs, performing room check outs, and tracking room changes; reporting and tracking repairs by preparing repair tickets; managing supply inventory and keeping track of furniture assigned to an area; training and overseeing student workers.
