o University of Oregon College of College of Education invites applications for full-time Analyst Programmer in Behavioral Research and Teaching (BRT). This is a re-posting of an earlier search.
o BRT is a research group that investigates a variety of problems related to teaching and learning. Most research and development is designed for teachers and students in a K-12 school environment. The team works to create educational programs for students in both special and general education with a focus on improving the academic achievement of children and operating as a resource to the community.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position will be required to take unpaid furlough days between date of hire and June 30, 2013.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor's degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience.
In addition the position requires:
* Proven track record of success in web application programming and relational database design.
* Fluency with X/HTML, XML, XSLT and CSS.
* Ability to interface to relational database management systems (MySQL, postgres) and XML databases from within a programming language.
* Ability to interface to relational and XML databases from within a programming language.
* Experience in creation and maintenance of relational databases (MySQL based or other).
* Experience in testing for and assuring optimal web user experience, including knowledge of 508 compliant web design standards.
* Experience in configuring and troubleshooting development, staging, and production servers.
* Demonstrable Unix/Linux/Mac/Windows literacy.
* Must work well independently with little supervision.
* Proven skills in writing technical documentation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position provides programming support for researchers in creating databases and drawing records from the databases in line with specific sampling plans. Duties include:
... leading the programming and modification of complex Web-based applications, databases, and programs through the entire development lifecycle, including testing and implementation.
... creating and administering web applications and ensure that web resources and sites are accurate and readily accessible to the user community.
... ensuring proper maintenance and support of assigned web sites; troubleshooting, resolving problems, and providing updates; researching, identifying, and recommending systems for future needs.
... working within variable timelines and product development trajectories; writing technical specifications, road maps and document development work.
