o Campus Operations at the University of Oregon invites applications for a full-time Recycling Coordinator (Maintenance Laborer Coordinator) in the Campus Zero Waste Program.
o Position travels to recovery facilities, visits facilities to review technology, attends and gives presentations, and attends professional meetings on and off-campus.
o This is a classified position represented by the Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between date of hire and June 30, 2013.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:

... one year experience working in a recycling or related environmental program; AND
... valid driver's license, good driving record, ability to operate large, standard shift vehicles, including large utility trucks and forklifts.

Position also requires good computer skills; excellent oral and written communication skills and experience giving presentations; experience leading or supervising the work of others; strong interpersonal skills sufficient to provide excellent customer service, train others, and productively solve problems individually or in a team setting.

Must pass forklift and van driving courses within one month of employment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position coordinates and continually monitors and improves the program of recycling activities, including operations, facilities, collection systems, charge-outs, education, customer service, and directs student staff in performing recycling duties. Duties include:
... coordinating material recycling operations in offices and academic buildings; maintaining program equipment and identifying equipment repair and replacement needs; purchasing equipment and safety supplies for Program operations; maintaining all areas of the program processing facility; coordinating material market preparation; creating efficiencies in route collection and materials processing; designating collection areas, both routine and non-routine; proposing new areas for expansion; ensuring material processing meets highest quality standard for maximizing marketability of materials to ensure maximum revenue.
... training, directing, scheduling, and coordinating the work of student employees who perform materials processing duties, prepare materials for markets, and perform special projects; providing performance feedback for student employees.
... overseeing large office and building clean-outs, including making assessments, estimating billing, providing instruction for material preparation, determining confidential material collection, and scheduling service pick-ups.
... operating fork lift; loading and unloading full recycling gaylords to and from recycling tractor trailers, using pallet jack to manually move gaylords; Changing propane tank as needed; filling in for regular crew duties as needed, including operating large program vehicles, loading and unloading equipment, moving cardboard cages, servicing materials barrels to central location, picking up 55 gallon barrels of recyclables and compost.
... communicating with program material marketing vendors on materials bin delivery, scheduling material pick-up, coordinating special contract needs; staying current on materials markets and resale markets and standards, adjusting operations as needed to accommodate changes in market; developing and implementing efficient systems to increase recycling, reduce waste and promote program safety; working with program manager, operations manager and other coordinators, to develop program policies, procedures, goals, projects, and expansion, including employee protocol; serving as a program liaison to campus community and program staff on recycling issues.
... preparing and maintaining documents and records; tracking and preparing student timesheets; tracking service provisions for service charge-out billing, report to supervisor for billing and program tracking.
... tracking and responding to customers' needs, such as office clean-outs, special materials collection, service requests, bin placements, new employee deskside containers; communicating to users on program guidelines and changes; making recycling presentations to customers upon request; giving facility tours and inquiries on program operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds. to handle materials. This position is located in an industrial warehouse setting, in the field, and in an office setting. There is frequent exposure to Pacific Northwest weather conditions.
